In high school I was in a band called The Days of Stillness (awful name, yes). We were marginally successful in a high school garage band sort of way– played 10+ live shows in the local area, recorded a four song EP, and had our crowning achievement by playing at a rally in front of our 2,000 strong student body in our gym ahead of the Homecoming football game during our senior year. Playing with the boys was fun as hell and obviously influenced my love for music so many years on– making music with your friends forges a bond that transcends the years, and it’s something I hope my kids get to experience as they grow older.
At any rate, in that local North Bay high school scene where we cut our chops there were a few bands that really set themselves apart. Far and away the best of the bunch was Plans For Revenge. This wasn’t just like a good local band kind of thing either– they were the real deal. Wild stage presence, absolute bangers for songs, and the post-hardcore emo look that was incredibly in vogue amongst the high school kids at the time. We never got to share the stage with them (probably for the best since they would have blown us out of the water) but we were there during their heyday and it was pretty special to watch from afar.
Along with being a great emo album title, Burns, Scars, And Memories still bangs 20 years later. It’s impossible not to feel all the feels when “Any Last Words” bridge hits and slows down before kicking into overdrive for one last final chorus.
Standout Songs: “Any Last Words”, “Sunrise”, “Knife For My Neighbor”, “Streetlight Serenade”
