Buddy Guy ‘A Man And The Blues’ (1968)

Buddy Guy has influenced some of the most legendary guitar players of all-time– classic icons like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to contemporary players like Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer have all taken inspiration from Buddy Guy over the years, borrowing from his vast catalog of frenetic and iconic runs over the fretboard. If you’ve heard a classic 12-bar blues lick and thought to yourself “I wonder where that came from”, chances are Buddy Guy had played some version of that phrase decades earlier on some long-forgotten record or in a long-forgotten club.

After serving as a studio musician for the legendary Muddy Waters during the early 60’s, Guy embarked upon a lengthy solo career that somehow continues to this day. His second studio album A Man And The Blues is a love letter to the genre that defined him, and the sound that would also define generations of guitarists to come.

Standout Songs: “A Man And The Blues”, “I Can’t Quit The Blues”, “Money (That’s What I Want)”
