Barbra Streisand ‘Guilty’ (1980)

If you had to make a list of top entertainment icons of all-time there’s no doubt Barbra Streisand is somewhere at the top of that list. Over her six decade career Streisand has cemented herself in history as a rare winner of the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), sold over 150 million records (!!!), and cemented herself as one of the best-selling artists of all time. Her credentials simply speak for themselves— she’s in a stratosphere all to her own.

Streisand’s prolific output is impressive. Guilty was the 22nd album she released in her career (which is frankly a ridiculous number) and stands as her most commercially successful. Produced by Bee Gees frontman Barry Gibb, Guilty is exactly what you would expect from two world class musicians coming together to write an orchestral pop record. You have Streisand’s dramatic and crystal clean vocals, soaring string instruments, intimate keyboard hooks, and Gibbs’s trademark call-and-response backing vocals.

All the balladry, pomp, and circumstance simply work. For anyone looking to get introduced to Streisand, Gibbs, or late 70’s/early 80’s adult contemporary, this is the place to start.

Standout Songs: “Woman In Love”, “The Love Inside”, “What Kind of Fool”
