I have a running theory that no matter who you are and what music you’re into, by the time you hit your 30’s you either implicitly enjoy the sounds of Motown or you’re probably a sociopath. To be clear this isn’t even to say you actively seek out listening to Motown– it’s just to say that whenever it comes on you have an undeniable desire to get your hips swinging and head start bopping. If you don’t, well, there might be something wrong with you.

There’s something very universal about the melodies and arrangements in Motown music that speak to us all on a human level, and The Supremes Where Did Our Love Go encapsulates that sense of humanity in a very poignant way. Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson are just delightful throughout this entire album, and proved it out on the charts– at the time it was the highest ranking album by an all-female lineup, sat on the charts for a ridiculous 89 weeks, and set records by becoming the first album in history to have three #1 singles.

There’s simply something here for everyone to enjoy. And if you feel differently, you might want to get yourself checked out.

Standout Songs: “Where Did Our Love Go”, “Come See About Me”, “Long Gone Lover”
