The “Punk Goes…” series has been a mainstay in punk rock since the early 2000’s and to this day I remember how impactful it was for me when I was 16 years old. I graduated HS in the class of 2006, and while original music absolutely appealed to me, hearing a punk band play a well-executed rendition of a Top 40 pop song was simply just fun. it was sort of magical at that moment in my life. I absolutely loved it and always will.
Punk Goes Pop…Volume 4 represents that sense of youthful exploration. This album came well after my HS graduation in ’06 (five years after in fact), but managed to capture the feeling of cheeky one-upsmanship better than any “Punk Goes….” album that came after it.
From the infectious energy of the kickoff track “Just The Way You Are” (Bruno Mars) all the way to the galvanizing vocal performance of Go Radio frontman Jason Lancaster in “Rolling In The Deep” (Adele), Punk Goes Pop…Volume 4 as a whole elevates each original song into something fresh and inspiring.
Standout Songs: “Little Lion Man”, “F**k You”, “Rolling In The Deep”
