Polyphia is one of the (if not the) most popular instrumental prog-rock bands operating today and their 2022 album Remember That You Will Die underscores just why– it’s filled with hooks aplenty and simply virtuosic instrumental performances. Guitarists Tim Henson and Scott LePage absolutely shred throughout the entirety of this 39-minute affair, taking their metal math-rock roots to the next level and introducing elements of R&B, hip hop, and Latin percussion to the diverse arrangements. When a cameo from guitar legend Steve Vai doesn’t even crack the top 3 on the album you know you’re in for a ride.
If it all feels heady, it should– this is seriously complex stuff and will have your brain hearing melodies it’s completely unaware even existed.
