I remember walking into Tower Records as a kid during the late 90’s, seeing this album on the shelf, and thinking it was the coolest damn album cover I’d ever seen. Still feel that way. Much like the epic imagery of The Bronx’s 2003 debut, Prodigy’s pissed-off crab tells you all you need to know about what The Fat of the Land is all about.
Electronica/techno music isn’t really my speed in general but what I’ve always appreciated about The Prodigy is the metal/alternative elements they incorporate into their industrial sound. The drum production here is so goddamn heavy, with just the right amount of effects on the loops, making each hi-hat and snare drum feel like you’re sitting in the room as it is being recorded.
This isn’t an electronica album meant for dancing– it is meant for mosh pits and headbanging.
